Hi Slugger & Family/Friends,

There is a $40 per player cost to pay for entry fee, practice fields.
Your $40 commitment to Nationals is due Sunday night or at the latest, Monday Morning as our entry fee is due Monday.
North Platte players can give their money to Robin Palmer & Ogallala area to Lynette Headley.

Motel room cost at a glance was over $100 a day. My brother has found a motel 10 minutes from the fields at around $50 a day.
Not the Radisson but I think it will work for us. I reserved 6 rooms Tuesday through Sat. Let me know if your interested.
Players need to do some kind of fundraiser &/or sponsorship to defer team/player costs.

This week's Practice T.B.A.

The Car Wash at Ogallala's old pro-mart/Burger King always seamed like it produced some good $.
I will talk to management if our team would be in favor of that.

Sent to team July 23rd

Hi Todd!

We are just a little over a week away from the 2008 ASA 16 & Under “B” Western Nationals to be held in Cheyenne, Wyoming. This e-mail has some additional and very important information regarding the tournament. Please take a few minutes to review this e-mail.

First of all, to date, I have 26 confirmed teams registered for the tournament. There are still a few State and Metro ASA Associations that are holding their qualifying tournaments this weekend. Therefore, It is necessary to extend the registration deadline to Tuesday, July 22. I am hoping for a few more teams to round out our bracket before I complete the draw on Wednesday July 23.

Managers Meeting

As was noted in the Pre-Tournament Packet, The tournament week will start out with the Manager’s Dinner Meeting on Monday July 28 which will start at 5:00 PM at the Cheyenne Holiday Inn, 204 W. Fox Farm Road, Cheyenne, Wyoming. If you have not sent me the advance order form for additional coaches, I still need to know how many coaches from your team will be attending so that we can give the motel a good idea of how many people they will need to feed. This is a very important meeting wherein we will discuss the tournament guidelines, rules, the schedule and process for Opening Ceremonies. This meeting is also where we will answer your many questions with regards to the tournament. There will be a check in list of those coaches that have confirmed their reservations. Your head coach and all attending assistant coaches must be on this list to attend. So if you have not communicated who from your team will attend, I suggest you do this ASAP.

Team Check In

Team Check In will start on Tuesday morning at 8:00 am and will continue throughout the day ending at 3:30pm. This will take place at the Brimmer Softball Complex, 2700 E. Pershing Blvd, Cheyenne, Wyoming 82001. Player picture identification will be required and all players must be present at check-in. NOTE: Any player that is not able to check in at this time must check in with the ASA tournament representative at either of the Cheyenne Softball complexes prior to participating in any games.

The following information is due at this time:

bulletTeam Contact/Hotel Information Sheet (Included in this Packet & website)
bulletSigned ASA Pick Up Player Forms

Each Team’s players must check in before they may participate in the tournament. Please have your team line up in the exact order as they are listed on the Championship Roster. Pick-up Players will be at the end of your line. Each player will present their photo ID and sign the Official ASA Sign in Sheet at this time. All pre ordered tournament admission passes as well as any additional packet items will be issued to the coaches at this time.

Opening Ceremonies

We have a great and sort of unusual Opening Ceremonies planned. They will take place Tuesday Evening starting at 4:00 pm and will also be held at the Brimmer Softball Complex. We will start with the traditional opening which will include a color guard and our National anthem followed by the introduction of Teams, Umpires and other ASA and local dignitaries. The gift exchange will be done in conjunction with the introduction of the teams at the Opening Ceremonies. We will have a ceremonial first pitch and then we will set up for a Softball Skills competition similar to what is done at the MLB and NBA All-Star games. At the conclusion of the skills competition we have a live concert featuring a Denver based 70s-80s retro band called “Boogie Machine” coming in to play for us. Everyone should enjoy them. There will be concessions available at the Opening Ceremonies for food and refreshments which will include Pizza by the slice or by the pie at a reduced rate. This program will be a great opening for your tournament. We would also like to know something special about your team, maybe, a short bio or team history for the announcer to use in the introductions. We want to make this event something the players, coaches and parent will remember. We will also be taking team photos during the opening ceremonies so teams must show up in uniform for this program. We will have a photo schedule available for sign up during the Manager’s Meeting on Monday.

Gift Exchange

Your gifts should be based on something that is distinctive about your home town. For example, Cheyenne is famous for Cheyenne Frontier Days which is one of the world’s largest outdoor rodeos. Therefore, a team from Cheyenne might exchange something that has to do with Cowboys and the old west, for example, an inexpensive cowboy hat or something with the Wyoming Bucking Horse on it. Teams will exchange with only one other team and the gift exchange should include something for each head coach as well. Since the number of coaches on a team can vary, possibly something the coaching staff can share. These gifts do no need to be extravagant. Basically, a small token gift that represents your team and their hometown.

Team and Action Photos

We have made arrangements with a Sports Photography firm called “A Moment in time” Sports action photography. They will be getting in contact with you with regards to advance information & purchases of team, individual and action photos. They will have booths set up at each facility and be taking photos throughout the tournament which will be available for sale onsite or via the internet sales at www.amomentintime2.com . This company did photos for our Wyoming J.O. State Tournament and did a wonderful job!

Tournament Souvenir Apparel

We have also made arrangements with Fine Designs Sportswear for your official 2008 ASA 16 & under “B” Western Nationals souvenir apparel. They will also be selling customized tournament shirts, jackets, etc onsite at each of the 2 facilities. If you would like to see the items or purchase them online you can go to this link: http://www.finedesignsapparel.com/items.asp?Cc=640&iTpStatus=0&Tp=&Bc=

Tournament Programs

Souvenir Tournament Programs will be available during the tournament at a cost of $5.00 per program. They will have team photos and rosters as well as bracket and game information. Tournament Sponsors will also be recognized in this program.

NPHS softball coach guilty of theft from Booster Club Tell North Platte what you think

The North Platte High School softball coach and coach of the Sensations, a summer softball league, was found guilty of theft in Lincoln County Court Friday.

Sharon Kramer pleaded no contest and was found guilty by Lincoln County Judge Kent Turnbull of stealing $970 from the North Platte Booster Club concession stand after the homecoming football game on Sept. 21, 2007.

Kramer admitted taking the money, according to Lincoln County prosecutors.

Lincoln County Attorney Rebecca Harling said officers from the North Platte police were dispatched to the high school in Sept. 2007 after the money was discovered missing.

Kramer was originally charged with felony theft but her attorney, Russ Jones, negotiated a misdemeanor plea agreement for her no contest plea.

Kramer repaid the full $970 to the court in restitution. The court will return the money to the Booster Club.

Kramer was ordered to pay a fine of $150 and court costs.
